Hi everyone!
If you've missed the previous posts in this series check the out here!
Part 1
Part 2
After a long refurb and even longer refinish we bolted the Washburn® back together. All in all we were really pleased with the results and think it looks like the beast it deserves to be!
Hope you enjoyed this little series! We had a great time transforming this guitar and we reckon the results speak for themselves!

Nice job. I was wondering how you cleaned up the gold hardware? Could you please share?
ReplyDeleteThanks for your kind comments Mark!
ReplyDeleteCleaning up gold hardware is always a bit difficult as the gold plating can be quite thin and any aggressive cleaners may strip the plating off entirely. I use a highly diluted cleaning solution of isopropyl alcohol and a soft bristle toothbrush to remove the worst of the dirt and tarnishing. Then I use a low strength metal polish specifically suited to gold / brass types of metals with a microfibre cloth to bring back the shine.
It depends how bad the tarnishing / dirt is on the gold hardware as to what cleaning methods you use. If the tarnishing is very bad and the plating is bubbling and flaking off then you may be better of replacing the item entirely or having it re-plated as cleaning could end up making it worse.
I hope that helps you out a little, any further help I can be please feel free to drop me an email!
